01. Vocational Training Process :
Are you planning to embark on a training opportunity in Portugal? Understanding the residence permit process is crucial to ensure a smooth transition. Here, we break down the key steps, requirements, and important notes to guide you on this exciting journey.
02. Required Documents :
Application Submission: Schedule your application through an electronic platform, submit it personally on a standard form signed by you or your legal representative, and deliver it to any SEF’s directorate or regional delegation. After processing and decision, your application will be forwarded to the directorate or regional delegation of your area of residence.
Photographs: Include two recent, identical color photographs with a blank background that clearly shows your face. This is required for appointments at specific SEF bureaus in Odivelas, Aveiro, or Braga.
Travel Documents: Provide your passport or any other valid travel document.
Residence Visa: You’ll need a valid residence visa issued under article 62 of Law no. 23/2007 (REPSAE). However, there is an exception for applications submitted under specific conditions mentioned in article 93 of REPSAE, which may allow for visa exemption.
Financial Means: Demonstrate your sufficient means of subsistence, following the provisions of Order Number 1563/2007, dated 11/12.
Accommodation: Provide evidence that you have suitable accommodation during your stay.
Criminal Record Check: Grant permission for SEF to check your Portuguese criminal record, unless you are under 16 years old.
Legal Entry and Stay: If you are applying with visa exemption, make sure to attach evidence of your legal entry and stay in the national territory.
Criminal Record of Home Country: In some cases mentioned in article 93 of REPSAE, you may need to submit a criminal record of your home country or the country of your residence for more than one year. However, this requirement doesn’t apply to anyone under 16 years of age.
Specific Documents:
Apart from the general documents, you’ll also need to include specific documents for your application:
Training Contract: Attach the training contract signed with a professional training company or body mentioned in article 62 of REPSAE.
Health Insurance: Ensure that you have health insurance or evidence that you are covered by the National Health Service during your stay.
03. Important Notes :
The granting of a residence permit is contingent upon several factors, including the absence of any circumstances that would prevent the issuance of the visa, lack of conviction for a crime punishable by a custodial sentence of more than one year in Portugal, and more.
Your residence permit as a trainee is typically valid for six months or for the duration of your traineeship, if the latter is longer. Unfortunately, this type of permit cannot be renewed.
If you are a volunteer, it’s important to note that you are not allowed to engage in professional activities under article 97 of REPSAE.
